Turmeric, the yellow-orange powder, is one of the most prominent ingredients in South Asian cuisine culture. Till recently, turmeric was considered fit only for adding taste and flavour to the food. There are have been several studies and experiments on Turmeric to prove and decipher the medicinal values that it holds. One such experiment was by Michael Mosley of the BBC’s Trust Me, I’m a Doctor.
Nearly 100 volunteers were divided into three groups for the experiment. The first group consumed a teaspoon of turmeric mixed in with their food, every day for six weeks. The second group took a turmeric supplement, and the third was given a placebo.
At the end of the experiment, the results revealed striking findings with one gene showing the biggest difference. This gene is responsible for three specific diseases: depression, asthma and eczema, and cancer.
